Our Society
Our society has founded in 1965 and it has become a well established and popular part of the local community.
It was founded in the days when Morley was a borough and our interests still revolve round traditions of the areas of Morley, Churwell, Gildersome, Drighlington and East and West Ardsley.
We welcome new members, young and old, who have interest in Morley's heritage. Contributions from new members are always welcome.
- Meetings
Every year between September and April we have a 7 monthly talks which are devoted mainly to Local History matters. There is always time for a cup of coffee and a chat at the interval after the talk. Then there is a friendly
general discussion or a continuation of the talk.
- Excursions
Each summer, we organise trips to places of historical interest for our members.
- Publications
We publish a newsletter for each monthly meeting. This gives details of Society activity and there is usually an illustrated article on Morley's Heritage. From time to time, booklets containing
articles of local interest are published.
- Research
From the beginnings of the society various members have done extensive research on the local area. Much of this has involved the study of old photographs and a number of publications have been made. Very recently, one of
our members has written a comprehensive history of Morley Co-op.
